Meet the Scotland Team
Here's a little bit of background about the Alpha Scotland team that supports Alpha and related ministries across Scotland:
Paul Davie, Alpha Scotland Director
Paul Davie is the national director of Alpha Scotland, which networks over 500 churches from every denomination, to equip and envision them to play their part in the re-evangelisation of the nation and the transformation of society.
Before taking up the post at Alpha Scotland in 2008, Paul pastored at City Church in Aberdeen for 12 years, and has degrees in the unrelated disciplines of theology and accountancy! Over the last few years he has led Global Alpha Training teams from Scotland to India to train and equip many leaders. He travels and speaks at churches and conferences across the nation. His passions are to see the church equipped for mission & ministry, and to see Jesus become the "talk of Scotland". Paul is married to Gillian who is a physiotherapist and they have three lively teenage boys. They live, work and worship in Glasgow.
Lesley Smith, Youth Alpha Manager
Lesley is an experienced youth worker who until recently was on staff at Dunblane Christian Fellowship. She pioneered their ‘Hot Chocolate’ drop-in cafe for un-churched young people, and has seen many come on Youth Alpha. Last year she was part of Heidi Baker’s team in Mozambique. She has also worked as a Youth Justice Social Worker for Glasgow City Council in the south of the city. She is now Alpha Scotland’s Youth Alpha Manager, and recently ran a GAT team to Denmark where they led a Youth Alpha course for 300 young people. Lesley has a heart for the whole world, and a particular passion for Africa.
Kieran Dunne, Alpha Training and Development Manager & Caring For Ex-Offenders Scotland National Co-ordinator
Kieran worked in Christian ministry for 16 years as a church leader and evangelist before joining Alpha Scotland in 2007. Prior to that he worked in the City of London for Ernst and Young. He supports pioneering Alpha projects for new contexts and is also responsible for Alpha for Prisons, Caring for Ex-Offenders, and Global Alpha Training. He regularly speaks at churches and guest events across the UK, and has been described as a ‘Comedic motivational speaker’. Kieran lives in Glasgow with his wife and their two teenage children.
Francesca Kaufman, Student Alpha Manager
Francesca came to faith as a student at university in Scotland. After taking part in an Alpha course her life and passion for Jesus were radically changed. She has since helped to pioneer Alpha for international students, which has seen amazing numbers of students from overseas hearing the gospel for the first time. She is also a part-time student herself at the University of Edinburgh where she is a PhD candidate researching in Chinese Studies. This year she is excited to be organising The Student Conference in partnership with key Christian organisations around Scotland – a radical new venture to encourage, equip and mobilise students in the areas of prayer, mission and justice.
Peter Anderson, Office Manager
The longest serving member of the Scotland team, Peter came onboard after a career in IT and web design with a local authority. Peter is an elder in his local Church of Scotland parish where he has run Alpha in different contexts for many years. He is responsible for conference and event management, administration and finance, and supports Paul Davie.
Hannah McVeigh, Intern - Prayer Co-ordinator
Originally from Northern Ireland, Hannah has just joined the Alpha Scotland team after graduating from the University of St. Andrews. She ran her first 24:7 prayer room during her time at High School and has had a passion for prayer ever since. After a year spent in South Africa serving Scripture Union, Hannah studied theology at university where she helped facilitate the student prayer culture whilst developing a passion for systematic theology! She is now establishing the Alpha Scotland prayer department and co-ordinating the Kingdom Come year of prayer for Scotland.
